Calling all families who visit Holders Wood and Highbury Orchard! Highbury Orchard Community is thinking of applying for Grow Wild grant of £2-4K, to run a project from March to October 2018. Activities and workshops must help people grow or learn about native wild plants, wildflowers or fungi.
We at HOCCIC are particularly interested in growing native herbs and learning about their uses. (NB I am checking about this suitability with the GW Team on Monday.) Workshops could include foraging and cooking; balms and salves; dyeing textiles; and harvesting, storing and saving seed. We could also add folklore and arts and crafts. Workshops would be pitched at children and their adults, with costs per family on a PAYF basis to supplement the grant.
Do Woodland Play and Down to Earth families want to be involved the project? Activities would take place at the Orchard and at Holders Wood.
If this sounds good to you and your family, please let me know your interest and ability to commit to attending workshops (perhaps on some of the Mondays/ Wednesdays you already go to). In return you would expand and deepen your practical knowledge about a variety of plants and contribute towards their conservation in the local area.
