Sunday 18th June is a date of happy co-incidences. It’s Fathers Day, it’s the nearest Sunday to the Summer Solstice and it’s an Orchard Work Session plus Woodland Play Sunday. So we’re naturally up for an event of some significance.
This one is important for another reason. Sunday 18th June is part of Refugee Week, and is one of the dates that Amnesty International and Near Neighbours (Church Urban Fund) are promoting community get togethers. Great Get Togethers are happening up and down the country in remembrance of Jo Cox who died a year ago, and who will be long remembered for saying: there is more that unites us than that which divides us.
Highbury Orchard Community stands firmly with Jo’s family at this ime, and we treasure the many ways to welcome and include everyone who visits or takes part at the orchard.
Our Great Summer Get Together will take place on 18th June from 4 till 7PM at the orchard and in Highbury park. It will include:
- a bring and share picnic (some drinks and cake available for a donation)
- camp fire
- nature crafts
- solstice science activity
- foraging walk
- meditative craft for all the community to contribute to
and perhaps more! We have already been excited by the number of people who want to get involved and have contributed ideas and activities. Everyone is welcome!
